Why Most Digital Strategies Fail (and How to Fix Yours)

Time to go back to the drawing board...again

Why Most Strategies Fail

Digital marketing often feels like chasing fireflies. You see the glow (trending challenges, influencer partnerships, viral posts), so you run after it.

Sometimes, you catch one. But what do you do next?

Most businesses don’t have an answer. They’re so focused on grabbing attention that they forget to ask, “What happens after we get it?”

Without a strategy to convert attention into trust, those fireflies will fly away, leaving you back at square one.

It’s not your fault—most of us were taught that more likes, followers, or clicks equal success.

But as I explained in my ASMR Method article, chasing vanity metrics without a plan is like cooking without a recipe.

You’ll get something, but it won’t taste good.

The Core Problem: Trend Chasing vs. System Building

Here’s why most strategies fail:

  • No Long-Term Vision: Many businesses don’t know why they’re chasing trends or how those trends align with their goals.

  • Lack of Systems: They don’t have workflows to handle the attention they’re seeking. Imagine a restaurant suddenly flooded with customers but with no processes to serve them. Chaos.

  • Focus on Output, Not Outcomes: Posting just to stay active might check a box, but it doesn’t build trust or connections.

The Fix: Build a System That Scales

This is where the ASMR Method changes the game. Let’s revisit the framework briefly:

  • Algorithm: Understand what works for your audience. No psuedoscience “post at exactly 11:17am on Tuesdays right after patting your lucky hat and wiring your grandma $5)

    • Sure, you’re 1% luckier than not doing it but have some real KPIs that aren’t just based on hope.

  • Social: Connect with people through storytelling, not noise.

    • Don’t “skip” to the good part. People will buy when they’re ready. Don’t pressure them. They hate that

  • Modular: Create repeatable systems for efficiency.

    • Website copy, social media post, youtube short, etc

  • Recipe: Turn raw ideas into polished content.

    • Essence, Target, Effect

With ASMR, you’re not just reacting to trends—you’re creating a system that lets you adapt, grow, and thrive.

An Outside Perspective: Seth Godin on Trust

Marketing legend Seth Godin once said, “People do not buy goods and services. They buy relations, stories, and magic.”

A flashy post might grab attention, but trust is what turns viewers into loyal customers. Godin’s emphasis on storytelling mirrors what I’ve built into ASMR: systems that prioritize trust and relationships over short-term gains.

If you haven’t read about the ASMR Method yet, start here. It’s the foundation for everything I’m teaching.

Your 5-Minute Homework

  • Reflect on your current strategy. What’s working? What’s not?

  • Write down one way you could better connect with your audience.

  • Sketch out a small system to make that connection scalable.
